Private Henry Tandey VC
or ‘Henry & Hitler’
This was a show, written and directed by Mike Grogan, that toured the south of England in the autumn of 2017 and played to a number of sell out audiences.
‘It is the 28th September, 1918 in northern France. A humble British Private has the opportunity to change the course of history by preventing World War Two!
This is the compelling story of Henry Tandey VC, the most decorated British Soldier of the Great War who with one single shot could have made the world a very different place. By a cruel twist of fate his place in history is more recognized as being the man who could have shot Hitler!
This is Henry’s story…………………………’
This was a meeting of stage play and folk opera, a story told through acting and song (2 actors and 2 musicians).
The show starred Ben Bracken in the title role of ‘Private Henry Tandey VC’ and John Rowlinson as ‘Brigadier Sir John Smyth VC, MC.
The musicians for the touring show were Mike Grogan (guitars), and Robert Martin (violin).
‘…this production has been exceedingly well researched… This is a story that should be told, and that half of the audience rose to give it a standing ovation…shows that Grogan and his team have pulled this one off’
Peter McCrohon – Review for ‘Remotegoat’
‘…Private Henry Tandey VC was an absolute masterpiece of writing and acting, with Ben Bracken’s poignant portrayal of the title role being interspersed with Grogan’s own thought provoking songs…’
Andrew Hay – Review for ‘Community Matters, Portsmouth’
